Ancient Oaks and Enchanted Light Workshop: Suffolk Uk 15th, 17th or 21st October 2025
Woodland Photography Workshops with Dave Peck
Step into a world of timeless beauty with my exclusive Woodland Photography Workshops, held in some of Suffolk’s most atmospheric natural locations. With over 40 years behind the camera and 16 years’ experience as a photography teacher, I’ll guide you through capturing the soul of the forest—whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned shooter.
Your 8 hour session will begin at or around sunrise at Staverton Thicks, a rare and magical ancient woodland where I have special permission to photograph on private land. Here, we’ll focus on the gnarled and twisted oak trees, many of which have stood since the days of Henry VIII. Their sculptural forms, dappled light, and rich textures provide a perfect setting to slow down and see creatively.
Next, we move to nearby Rendlesham Forest, where heathland, pine forests , and elegant silver birch combine to offer a completely different woodland experience. We’ll explore the contrast between these landscapes and discuss how to adapt your approach for different environments.
After the shoot, you’ll be invited to a one-hour online session where we’ll review and process a selection of your favourite images from the day. It’s a relaxed but valuable chance to learn post-processing techniques and refine your final results.

“Thank you Dave, it was a brilliant day and I learnt a great deal about woodland photography. The freshly made coffee was very welcome, mid-morning after a 4.30am start!
I would highly recommend this day for anyone who finds woodland composition a bit like woodland, impenetrable!”

Why Choose Our Workshop?
Well known and unexplored locations
As Garry is a resident of North Yorkshire, our workshop offers a unique advantage. Garry has lived in this area his whole life and knows the county intimately. I am also a frequent visitor. From tranquil waterfalls nestled in lush green valleys to mesmerizing limestone pavements stretching across the landscape, with our help and guidance you’ll have the opportunity to capture these enchanting scenes in all their glory. We will shoot at sunrise, throughout the day and at sunset. The aim is to photograph at least 4 locations per day.
Learn from Two Masters of the Craft
Our workshop brings together not one, but two celebrated landscape photographers, each with their own distinct style and expertise. Benefit from the diverse perspectives and techniques of these seasoned professionals as they impart their knowledge, tips, and tricks to help you elevate your photography skills to new heights. Whether you're a beginner or an intermediate photographer, our workshop is designed to cater to all skill levels. There will be plenty of time for 1-2-1 tuition as you will be part of a small group (maximum of 6).
Master the Art of Composition and Lighting
Composition and lighting are the pillars of landscape photography. During our workshop, you'll receive expert guidance to enhance your understanding of these fundamental elements. Our photographers will teach you how to frame your shots for maximum impact, tell captivating visual stories, and make the most of natural lighting conditions. Unlock the secrets to creating stunning images that you will be proud to put on your wall.
Post-Processing Techniques and Workflow
Photography doesn't end when you press the shutter. The magic continues during post-processing where your images truly come to life. Learn the ins and outs of post-processing techniques in the evening over a coffee. We will guide you through an efficient and effective workflow. Discover how to enhance the colors, bring out the intricate details, and create captivating compositions using LR,PS, Luminar Neo and Dehancer editing software. Elevate your photographs from good to extraordinary!
Small Group Setting for Personalised Attention
To ensure an enriching and intimate learning environment, our workshop is limited to a small group of 6 participants. This allows us to provide personalised attention, tailored feedback.

Post-processing tuition.
A generous helping of 1-2-1 tuition.

The Plan
We plan to shoot two sunrises on Monday 19th and Tuesday 20th along with three sunsets on 18th, 19th and 20th. Obviously landscape photography is weather dependent and we have several locations bookmarked. Most locations do not require much walking and some can be photographed a short walk from the car. During the day, depending on weather, we aim to photograph some local waterfalls and you can try your hand at some aerial photography with one of our drones.
What do I need?
Whatever photographic equipment you have. It is even possible to have a successful workshop with an iPhone! A tripod is a must (we have a couple available if you need the loan of one) and a selection of lenses if you have them.
Wellies with good grip.
Waterproof outer layer.
Sturdy walking boots with ankle support would also be useful.
Warm clothing. It is best to have several thin layers on rather than one big thick layer but certainly dress for cold weather.
If you are not sure about what to bring please ask and we will advise.
T&C’s apply and will be sent to you with the booking document. We require a £100 deposit to secure a place.
